"How It Feels to Fly" (2:26 a.m.)

It’s 2:26 in the a.m. on Thursday night (or Friday morning), and I am up listening to music. Not really thinking about anything in particular, just kind of chilling out.

As I’ve been listening to Pandora for the last hour or so, I am reminded of how much I appreciate the storytelling art form of a good song. I’m reminded of how lyrics really do take me on a journey, and how they cause me to take a moment to think..reflect.. just feel.  By Pandora’s selection, that song for me right now is “How it Feels to Fly” by Alicia Keys.

“Have you ever felt so strong
That it made you feel weak
Long days
Long nights
And you just can’t sleep

Have you ever been so sure
That it gave you cold feet
That felt all bare
You can feel your heart beat

Well I never knew this feeling never
Now I hope it stays and last forever
I am riding high
I don’t want to come down
Hope my wings don’t fail me now
And If I can touch the sky
I’d risk the fall just to know how it feels to fly

Have you ever felt so lost
But didn’t know until you were found
Looking everywhere for
What you finally see now
In the room full of people
Feels like no one’s around
Got your head in the clouds
And your feet are off the ground

Say I never knew this feeling, never
Now I hope it stays and last forever
I am riding high
I don’t want to come down
Hope my wings don’t fail me now

And If I can touch the sky
I’d risk the fall just to know how it feels to fly
(Song by Alicia Keys)

I love the hook – especially the last line. As much as I am the person that likes to play in concrete realities, I am just as much of the person that believes in dreams. In fact, I often visualize myself living my dreams every night before I fall asleep lol. In that sense, this song has gotten me ready for bed. As I sign off, and hit submit for this post, I’m thinking about how true it is for me that if I could touch the sky, I’d risk the fall just to know how it feels to fly…
I hope the same for you…
